Veiled women driving a Ferrari or making autocross aboard a Porsche, the picture may seem surreal in a Arab Muslim country. This is not the case in the UAE, a federation of states neighboring Saudi Arabia, where sex "weak" has still not allowed to drive ... Car lovers and mechanics have created their own club: the Women Self-Race Club (WARC) in Dubai. This is the only club of its kind in the UAE and probably in the Gulf.
Its inception in 2006, cringe. But if some women were reluctant at first, the originality of the project ended up seducing them. To raise awareness and recruit new members, the WARC organizes each year's National Day (December 2), a "works" to educate women on a social issue. Participants then pass through the UAE to board their 4x4, escorted by guards appointed by the Ministry of Interior. The march of 2007 had focused on trisomy 21 children. The 2008 theme was breast cancer. This year it will focus on diabetes.
